An unusual and uncommon circular flower bud vase from Royal Worcester. Decorated with a pierced or reticulated centre to the front and back depicting flowering prunus branches in the Aesthetic or Japanesque style. To the front a monkey can be seen climbing the branches. The reticulated centre is finished in a gilt glaze with further gilt highlights over a white ground to the rest of the vase. An inner wall forms a wheel like outer edge to the reticulated centre allowing the vase to hold water. The circular vase stands on four ornate feet.
Dated: 1879
Condition: No cracks or restoration is apparent. The reticulated decoration is in excellent condition and here the gilding shows little signs of rubbing. There is rubbing at the top of the vase around the aperture and on other high points in this area.
