A porcelain lamp base decorated with hand painted flowers and foliage on an ivory ground. The top rim and vase body base are embellished with raised decoration to which a dusting to gilding has been added. The rim and socle foot are enhanced with gilt bands. Originally manufactured to support an oil lamp burner and reservoir secured via the hole in the bottom of the base. By careful addition of a well fitting cork, this lamp base could now double as an impressive vase.

Condition: In excellent condition with no cracks, chips or repairs. The decoration remains vibrant. The gilding shows only minor rubbing on the gilt banding to the ‘shoulder’ where the wick adjustment handle of the burner may have sat and been rubbed during use.
