Wiltshaw and Robinson Cache Pot
An early Carlton Ware cache or planter pot. Decorated in a lustrous Mikado pattern. A bluey mauve pearlized ground on which to the front is painted a traditional Chinese scene of buildings, a Chinese bridge and a Chinese lady. Two swallows fly overhead. Extracts of this scene are repeated to the reverse. The interior is decorated in a light blue pearlized gaze. A mottled lustrous yellow band punctuated with red dots circles the upper rim. Gilt highlights throughout.
Circa 1894-1920
Condition: Signs of use are apparent with rubbing to the gilt on the upper rim and the gilt to the base is very rubbed. No cracks or repairs.
