Circa 1890
Art Unions were organisations set up to function as patrons of art and The Art Union of London was one such organisation. Members paid an annual subscription which would be used to purchase contemporary art, such as this Doulton Lambeth vase, which were then distributed to members by way of a lottery. Decorated by Bessie Newbery this vase, which is in excellent condition, is clearly marked as an Art Union of London piece.
